The Global WaSH Cluster recently organized and hosted the symposium, Water, Health and Environmental Justice in Marginalized Communities at the 2019 Annual ACS Conference in San Diego. Spearheaded by Dr. Joshua Kearns, the event addressed water and health challenges faced by poor and marginalized people in the US and abroad in the developing world. Guests from around the world presented investigations of the chemical and biological dimensions of water quality and the development of science and engineering approaches to advancing Environmental Justice and protecting public health in low-resource settings. The event generated interest in arsenic and heavy metal contamination in native communities.
