David Gilmartin

Dr. David Gilmartin is a Professor of History. He researches modern South Asian history, specifically focusing on the intersection of the history of British colonialism and the development of modern politics and systems of rule. His book Blood and Water: The Indus River Basin in Modern History investigates the intertwined environmental and political history over the last two centuries. Dr. Gilmartin’s current projects highlight issues related to the creation of Pakistan, and the elective institutions of India through history and how these institutions have embodied evolving ideas of sovereignty.
